Moreno Valley, referred to as MoVal by locals, is the 2nd largest city in Riverside County, only behind Riverside itself, with a population of 201,175 (2013). It is also part of the Greater Los Angeles Area of Southern California, a region that is know for its congested streets and highways.
Recently the area has seen a development boom that brought the MetroLink rail transit to the city as well and an increase in corporate office industrial and business parks. There are currently proposals to start development on a four-lane freeway stretching from Interstate 215 to Interstate 15, two of the most heavily trafficked roadways in the county.

Two major roadways, California State Route 60 and interstate 215 run through Moreno Valley at its western and northern borders. These two road ways account for the bulk of traffic through the city of Moreno Valley, as well as, where the majority of auto accidents occur in the area. “Chase suspect crashes, kills woman in MoVal” – A 76 year old woman is dead after a 53 year old man led police on a chase down westbound 60 freeway. After exiting the freeway, the suspect slammed his car into another vehicle. The victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries where she later died. The suspect was charged with multiple felony charges.
“5 Hurt, 2 Critical After Car Crashes Into Tree” – Two of five people involved in an accident are in critical condition after their vehicle slammed into a tree in Moreno Valley. The 2-door car was totaled and debris filled the roadway late Saturday night. Firefighters reported that the damage was so extensive that they had trouble making out the vehicle’s make and model. The vehicle collided with another car before hitting the tree; the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not injured.
“Westbound traffic moving after four-car pileup” – A four-car pileup brought westbound 60 to a standstill early Monday morning. CHP reported the accident at 7am and Caltrans had the accident cleared by 10am. Two parties involved were transferred to local area hospitals. It is unclear at this time what caused the collision.
